Dhaka-- (UNB) - All commercial banks will remain open on Saturday, usually an official holiday, to facilitate transactions, stalled by shutdowns for three consecutive days this week.

Individual and commercial transactions suffered badly for the last three days of the troubled week out of five working days.

Bank branches refrained from normal functions apart from inter-bank transactions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Most branches kept their main entrances under lock and key, barring individual clients to enter.

Bankers, however, said they served importers and exporters and made major transactions on prior information.

Bangladesh Bank in a circular yesterday asked all banks to keep their branches open on Saturday across the country to clear off their backlog transactions.

Branches of the central bank will also remain open on Saturday, said the circular, issued as per Article 45 (a) of Bank Company Act, 1991.
